COLUMBIA – Following an 0-3 stretch with losses to Chester and Newberry, Fairfield Central’s baseball team put on an offensive clinic Tuesday, dismantling Columbia 25-0 in just three innings.
The Griffins wasted no time taking control, jumping out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning behind a two-run double from Logan Watkins and RBI hits from Mason Jackson-Nellums and Brad Trapp.
The Griffins blew the game open in the second inning with a 17-run explosion, featuring doubles from Watkins, Brandon Adams, Jayshawn Worthy, and two from Brad Trapp, alongside a triple by M Harrison.
Brad Trapp led the RBI charge for the Griffins, driving in four runs on two hits and a walk. The Griffins tallied 17 hits in total. Caden Brown and Watkins paced the team with three hits each, while Landon Morgan, Jackson-Nellums, and Adams all recorded multi-hit games.
Fairfield Central’s aggression wasn’t limited to the batter’s box. They racked up 19 stolen bases in the win. Morgan, Jackson-Nellums, Worthy, Brown, Watkins, and Trapp each recorded multiple steals.
Harrison picked up the win on the mound, striking out three and allowing no hits over an inning and a third. He walked two. Brad Trapp came on in relief, pitching the final one and two-thirds innings without giving up a hit. He struck out two to preserve the shutout.
The Griffins (2-6) will look for a repeat performance on Thursday when they welcome Columbia to Winnsboro for a rematch.
Fairfield will face off with Richard Winn in a two-game series early next week. The Griffins will host Monday’s 1 p.m. game, then Richard Winn will host on Tuesday for a 6 p.m. start.
