Bengal girls win Gail Devers Invitational title

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA – Blythewood girls’ track and field captured the overall team championship at the 4th Annual Gail Devers Invitational on March 21. Competing in a 26-school field at Mountain View High School, the Bengal girls posted 91 points to comfortably outpace runner-up Archer High School (77) and Heritage (72.5).

The girls’ win was anchored by gold-medal performances from Anna Kelly, who took the top spot in the 3200m (11:54.72), and Romell Garway, who won the triple jump with a leap of 36-5.50. The Bengals  also dominated the 4x400m relay, clocking a first-place time of 3:49.78.

Points came from runner-up finishes by Olivia Taylor in the 200m (24.57), Peyton Hightower in the 400m (54.98), Hayley Hightower in the 800m (2:13.55), and Alexis Jones in the high jump (5-4.00). Alexandra Francique added a fourth-place finish in the 100m (12.19), while Madison Ross took fifth in the 300m hurdles (46.77). The 4×100 relay team finished second at 47.36.

On the boys’ side, the Bengals secured a strong sixth-place overall finish (43.3 points), fueled by a distance sweep from Jacob Powell. Powell claimed first place in both the 1600m (4:21.45) and the 3200m (9:33.50).

The boys also stood atop the podium in the 4x400m relay (3:21.09). Other top-five performances included Marlon Glover’s fourth-place finish in the 100m (10.90), Larry Davis taking fifth in the 400m (49.47), and Anthony Knight securing fifth in the 3200m (10:15.28).
